The emerald cut is a step cut, which means long parallel facets and a hall-of-mirrors depth rather than scattered sparkle. Herringbone is a single woven ribbon of flat angled links that lies completely flush and mirror-smooth against the skin; an omega is a heavier chain of plates strung on a mesh core. The Serene is herringbone, which is what gives it that liquid, unbroken sheen.
• The herringbone chain is the reason this piece wears so well. Its flat woven links lie completely smooth against the collarbone and will not twist or catch on knitwear.
• The bezel protects every edge of the stone, which is what makes an emerald cut safe for genuine daily wear. Unprotected corners are the vulnerable point on this shape.
