Marquise Cuff — hero shot of the coiled ear cuff, solid 14k gold with a marquise-cut lab-grown diamond

Marquise Cuff

Earrings

$1,250.00

No piercing. No compromise.

A one-carat marquise diamond, set high on a coiled band of solid 14k gold that wraps the outer edge of the ear and holds by tension alone. Nothing goes through anything. If you never had your ears pierced, or you did and the holes closed years ago, or you simply want a diamond somewhere other than your lobe, this is the piece that solves it. It also happens to be the one people ask you about.

✦ Diamond Specifications

  • Stone: Marquise-cut lab-grown diamond, pointed at both ends with a wide brilliant-faceted centre
  • Clarity: VS1+, a step above our house standard
  • Color: E+, the whitest grade we work with
  • Cut: Excellent
  • Carat weight: 1 ctw
  • Setting: Open prong setting raised above the coil, with prongs cradling both points

The marquise is the right stone for a cuff and no other shape would work as well. It is long and narrow, so it lies along the curve of the ear rather than sitting on it like a dot, and its two points give the eye a direction to travel. At one carat a marquise reads noticeably larger than a round of the same weight, because all of that weight is spread lengthwise.

✦ Metal & Construction

  • Solid 14k gold throughout, in yellow or white. Not plated, not filled, not vermeil.
  • No post, no back, no clasp, no piercing. The coiled band is formed with a deliberate spring in it and holds by gentle tension against the outer ear.
  • The coil is structural and decorative at once. Its curve is what grips, and its wrap is what makes the piece look like a small sculpture rather than an earring substitute.
  • The diamond sits raised above the band on open prongs, so light reaches it from underneath as well as from the front.
  • One size, shaped to the outer ear, and adjustable by hand within a small range. See below.

✦ How to Wear It

Slide it on from the outer edge of the ear, roughly halfway up where the cartilage is thinnest, and roll it back into place rather than pushing it straight on. It should sit snug against the ear, not gripping it. Diamond forward gives you the full effect. Rotated a few degrees off axis it looks less posed and more like you have been wearing it for years.

If it feels loose, take it off and press the two ends toward each other between thumb and finger, a fraction of a millimetre at a time, then try it again. If it pinches, ease the ends apart the same way. Two rules: always adjust it off your ear, and go in tiny increments. Gold moves willingly in one direction but does not like being worked back and forth repeatedly, so getting there in three small presses is far better than one big one.

Wear it on an otherwise bare ear, or set it above studs on the same side so the ear reads as a curated stack. On the opposite ear, keep things quiet.

✦ Why Lab-Grown Diamonds

  • Chemically and optically identical to mined diamonds. Same carbon lattice, same 10 on the Mohs scale, same fire.
  • Graded against the same 4Cs by the same gemological standards, which is how we can promise E colour and VS1 clarity in a single visible stone.
  • Traceable origin. You know exactly where each diamond came from.
  • Meaningfully better value, which is what makes a full carat at E/VS1 a sensible thing to put on an ear cuff rather than saving for a ring.

✦ Perfect For

  • Unpierced ears. This is real fine jewelry with no compromise attached to it.
  • Piercings that closed and you never got around to redoing.
  • Events, dinners and anywhere you want one thing nobody else in the room is wearing.
  • Travel days, since there is no back to lose in an airport bathroom.
  • Buying yourself something with a point of view rather than something safe.

✦ Care & Longevity

  • Solid 14k gold will not tarnish or fade. It only needs cleaning.
  • Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush. Work along the inside of the coil, where skin oil builds up and where the metal contacts you all day.
  • Never sleep in it. A tension piece migrates against a pillow and can be forced open overnight.
  • Take it off before swimming and showering. Chlorine attacks the alloys in gold.
  • Store it in your AVRA box on its own, and never under anything heavy. Compressing the coil is the one thing that will change how it fits.
  • After a year or two of regular wear the tension may soften slightly. A gentle press restores it, using the same small increments described above.

Fine Details

Why ?

Five reasons it outlasts everything else in the box.

Most jewelry is built to look good in a photo. This is built to still look good after a decade of showers, gym bags and airports.

OthersDesigner
01 Solid 14k goldEvery piece is 14k gold through and through. Brass core, gold-dipped — even vermeil gold is just a coating. Same materials but with a 10x markup? You're buying the logo, not the piece.
02 VS–VVS clarityClarity that actually sparkles with fire, graded and certified. Cubic zirconia or ungraded stones. Usually SI — you're paying for the name, not the stone.
03 Never tarnishesSolid gold doesn't fade — it only patinas. Dulls and flakes within months. Nobody likes green stains on their skin… Varies line to line.
04 An investmentA quality piece that holds and rises in value over time. No resale value. Resale rarely covers the name markup.
05 QualityHand-finished, inspected in Florida, small local batch. Mass-produced, no inspection. Made on the same production lines as the rest.
